Student and Young Professional Workshops

Canadian Water Network's Student and Young Professional program provides training and networking opportunities to help the next generation of water professionals develop the tools they need to conduct and access research that improves decision-making and policy development, as well as excel in their careers.

Our week long watershed-based workshops offer full immersion in a Canadian watershed to gain practical experience and in-depth analysis of real water management issues. Workshop participants travel to a local watershed, visiting key sites like treatment plants, farms, industries and more to learn from local experts, and to hear firsthand about water challenges and opportunities in the host region.

Our regional workshops focus on softer, non-scientific skills such as effective communications and leadership within the context of Canadian water management, which lead to post-graduate opportunities and meaningful work for young professionals.

“The workshop opened my eyes to all aspects of watershed research and helped me to think more about the big picture and the importance of each research area, whether it is biology, engineering or the social sciences. All are important and interconnected.”
