Knowledge Translation and Brokering
Knowledge translation (KT) is a process by which relevant research information is made available and accessible for practice, planning and policy-making through interactive and iterative engagement with intended research users. (Adapted from UBC Centre for Health and Environmental Research, 2008)
Knowledge brokering (KB) includes all the activities in which intermediaries (knowledge brokers) or intermediary organizations link the producers and users of knowledge to strengthen generation, dissemination and eventual use of that knowledge. (Bielak, Campbell, Pope, Schaefer & Shaxson, 2008)
KT/KB tools and toolkits can be described as mechanisms that facilitate knowledge translation and brokering to improve research and decision-making. KT tools can be any combination of checklists, templates, processes, frameworks, workshops, presentations, websites, search engine, models, set of questions, etc.
