Wastewater management research

Quantifying the links between water quality and wastewater discharges has remained an active research priority in Canada for many years in part because of increased and more complex industrial and agricultural activity together with improved detection and toxicity assessment methods.
Research investigations in this theme span a broad range of wastewater sources in several Canadian environments.

- Impacts of manure management practices on regional water resources: priority areas, alternative management approaches, economic implications, led by Dr. Dave Rudolph, Institute for Groundwater Research, University of Waterloo
- Small-scale rural wastewater solutions initiative, led by Graham Gagnon, Department of Civil Engineering, Dalhousie University
- Surface and ground water management in the oil sands industry, led by Dr. George Dixon, Department of Biology, University of Waterloo
